Hi, Guys, Thank you for your comments! I have a big problem, my butt always comes out ( The head, body, butt should be straight) when I tried to turn my body, of course I can’t move the center of my body. I also know the waist brings butt to turn. I hope you could understand what I mean.
Here are more good insights from Shifu.
Boz Odusanya • The pelvis (hips) should rotate under, this aims the lower back to straigthen and creates a correct alignment wih the upper and lower body. The rotation of the pelvis is very small (about a 1 cm). However gravity plays a key part of the movement (letting go)
An easy way to isolate the movement is sit on a chair, rotate your pelvis under slightly, keep the butt still and you can turn your waist horizontally.
You more than likely make the correct movements daily each day on a sub-consious level, bringng it into the consious level is aways harder to do ( this is a confidence booster, because most things we are trying to achieve within the tai chi, we actually achieve on a sub consious level without any problem in the activities of daily living)
My online tution site gives illustrations of correct alignment in the first free 8 lessons. Go and look at it (it has videos etc). http://www.taichi-tuition.com/taichi
i am afraid the pelvis alignments module are in the actual course ‘Go Chi-i’.
Hi matthew – i had the problem with my head leading for years when i practiced the Wu style. Its an hard habit to get out of. Anyway this is my reasoning for the error. The mind is moving the body from the head, so the head tends to move first (like a duck) than the body, A SOLUTION that may help: send the mind into the lower dantian and then the lower body will then intitate the movement and pull the body the forward. In fact the centre inititates all movements of the body (as the hub of the wheel). The pelvis (physical alignment) and lower dantain together are very important areas that promote the correct development (centre)of the tai chi movements, and then later into the internal arts.
Job Koesoemobroto • Good advise from all of you! Cathy, do remember that it can be a slow and gradual process to drop your sacrum to stop sticking your butt out. Don’t force yourself!
