Hi, Guys, When do you start to learn Tai chi, Kungfu? Why do you want to learn? My colleagues teased I am having the old people life.
I get up early, go to bed early every day. In every early morning I practice Tai chi with a group in a park, I am the youngest. Looks like Tai chi is an old people activity in China. How about it in your countries? I love to do Yang style tai chi chuan, but I never tried to remember any set’s name since I learned last August. I can’t completely finish to practice the whole sets(85sets) by myself by now. What an embarrassing thing, right?

Bill Kent • the reason it seems old people are the only ones doing it is that most people have no clue why they are doing it to begin with. the sets are qigong moves put in a pattern for memorization. each one is designed to treat different organs and the also flow in a pattern that slowly works the fascia on each side of the body and the middle. this slow twisting unlocks the stuck fascia layers along with the energy work on the meridians. Starting is more important than finishing. most people dont start.
Szilvia Zsoldos • When I started I was the youngest of the class, too. It’s OK to compare yourself to others, but don’t let it limit you too much. There was a time when playing soccer was for the boys, tennis for the rich, etc Tai Chi has so much depth in it, so many layers, it takes a lot of time to discover them. The earlier you start, the deeper you can go in understanding the moves.
Robert Devoluy • Tai Chi Chuan means supreme ultimate fist. The ultimate is better, softer, harder, more flexible. The older Kung Fu practionishers often do Tai Chi when they are damaged from the hard or external Kung Fu forms, and they discover Tai Chi is better, more fluid and powerful. The young do it because it is the ultimate in fighting and health, strenghtening. longevity, if you understand what that means.
Leas Maria • I teach people 18 to 80 years of age every week. Honestly, I’ve studied with people of all ages and find that the love of Qigong and Tai Qi spreads to people who are smart enough to learn these ancient/future technologies. Good Luck!
